Arsenal Rest is an independent, ad-supported publication about dining out and food. We publish clear, well-sourced guides to the things that actually make eating out better — restaurant etiquette, tipping customs, how to read a menu, pairing wine and beer, and understanding the world's great cuisines — along with a couple of free, practical tools.

The name is literal. "Rest" is short for restaurants; "arsenal" means a well-stocked toolkit. Put together, Arsenal Rest is a toolkit of dining knowledge: not a brand, not a directory, and not a place that sells you anything. Just useful information.

What we believe about food writing

Most "best restaurants in [city]" content online is thin, quickly outdated, and often paid for. We deliberately don't do that. Instead we focus on evergreen knowledge — the customs, vocabulary and decision rules that hold true whether you're in New York, Paris, Tokyo or anywhere else, this year or in five years.

  • Accuracy first. Where a custom varies by country or region, we say so and tell you when to ask.
  • No fake experts. We don't invent celebrity chefs or fictional reviewers. Where we cite specialised facts, we point to established culinary references and public sources such as national food-safety and nutrition bodies.
  • Genuinely useful. Every guide is written to help you make a better decision at the table, not to fill space around ads.
